One day a little boy was visiting my friend's house. Noticing her dog's leather collar he announced, "She's got a belt on!"
The bible teaches Christians to put on the "belt of truth." The "belt of truth" holds everything together when circumstances would point to everything falling apart. When you feel like you will lose your mind, it is the "belt of truth" that will keep your thoughts from unraveling you. The "belt of truth" is God's word for what we are going through. Here are a couple truths God would have all believers know, whatever they face.
Truth one, God has not called us to a losing battle. With Him we win, if not at the moment, then soon. So hang in there. Philippians 1: 6 says, "He who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion." This whopper of a truth will help us quit wondering things like "will I make it through this?" We will. According to this verse God has promised to succeed in us. What He started, He will finish.
Truth two, God loves us no matter what, no matter when. This truth will keep that old "God couldn't love me" lie from flying in to build a nest in our minds—a nest with a mocking bird that sings "He doesn't love you no more." In Jeremiah 31:3 God says, "I have loved you with an everlasting love." That is God's song to you. He loves you! He loves you! He loves you! There is no "not."
In bible times soldiers wore belts so that they could tuck up their tunics in battle. Their belts enabled them to move forward without getting tangled or tripped up. Today let's tuck our doubts into the wonderful belt of God's truth. And let's move on into the victory He has already prepared for us.
"Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist…" Ephesians 6:14 NIV
