In Constant Prayer
In Constant Prayer is authored by Robert Benson. I thought that this book was very easy to read, much as though Mr. Benson was just having a conversation with me and often baring the thoughts of his soul.
This book is a plea to Christians to take up the mantle of prayer and not just any babbling prayer, Mr. Benson wants us to take up what is called the daily office. What is the daily office? I’ll quote straight from the book here, “the daily office is a regular pattern and order for formal worship and prayer that is offered to God at specific times throughout the course of the day. Each set of prayers, known as an office, is made up of psalms, scriptures, and prayers.”
I’ll have to admit that this style or method of prayer had not been a part of my life. I was all for constant prayer, but not prayer that was this ritualized. I now have to admit that after reading this book I am strongly considering the addition of this style of prayer as part of my prayer life. I think that there are things said in these prayers that we need to be saying.
The only thing that I would like to have seen more of in this book would have been more about personal experiences from those that are praying the daily office.
I recommend this book for all Christians and this book may also be an inspirational read for those young Christians and those who are just not happy with their prayer life. I think this book will at the very least make you re-examine your prayer habits.
