Love, Judgement, Heaven or Hell
Author: Bruce Cook
For the past few days there have been three words, love, judgment and hell that keep going through my mind. As I sat and thought about the love of God, I was suddenly overwhelmed with memories of how much God loved me during my 76 years here on earth. From my birth He saved my life from phantom cholera and He continued to protect me many times after that, even though there were times that I was unaware of it until I had time to reflect upon certain events of my life.
I also thought about how He had placed me with good loving parents and helped them to raise me through the Great Depression, sickness, war and just growing up from a child through teenage years. You see, I did things in my young life that I am not proud of. I started smoking at the age of 6 and was drinking and swearing buy the age of 16. But God delivered me from these things at the age of 22. From my birth I had attended the Wellsburg Free Methodist Church and had many caring Sunday school teachers who have since gone on to be with the Lord. But they had planted Spiritual seeds in my life, so I knew that these things were wrong and each time I would do them I would feel this twinge of guilt that would make me uncomfortable, because I was still attending church and Sunday school. Today I still feel a revolting twinge when I hear others use the Lords name in vain.
I think about how God selected my wife, children, grandchildren and friends to love and be loved by them. How He provided work and income for me all of my life to meet our needs. I think about how God loved Bruce Cook so much that he gave his only son, Jesus Christ to die on the cross for my sins. I know that God loves us and wants each and everyone to come to Him, accept Him by faith and repent of their sins.
We hear so much about Gods love today but we hear very little about judgment day or hell. Some today believe that if God loves us that much He wouldn’t let harm come to us at judgment. There are also those who believe that all of their good works will get them unto heaven. Then there are those who don’t want to believe that a hell exists.
I remember times in people’s lives when they were waiting to be picked for a team, club, group, promotion or some other activity, and the disappointment they felt when they weren’t picked. Some were devastated and took a long time to recover, or never forgot about it. Can you imagine how we would feel if we were standing in line at the judgment with friends and relatives ahead of us, and hear the Lord say to them. “Depart from me, I never knew you” and then led away into eternal torment and suffering.
Can you imagine how long eternity is? Webster says it is without beginning or end in relation to time, everlasting, timeless, ceaseless, immortal and imperishable. It is the infinity of time, the future state after death.
Hell is a place of burning or torture. Again can you imagine yourself, a member of your family or a best friend being tormented forever?
I thought about my work and how math had been an important part of costing, planning, maintaining and evaluating inventories. The figures would often extend to five decimals places. I then started to equate it with life and eternity as a fraction. Sometimes we are in pain one day, a week, a month or a year or more and we think that we have suffered a lot of pain. But if I tried to use one of these periods of pain over a divisor of eternity or even my 76 years of life, I could not figure that fraction or how many decimal places that would be compared to eternity, an eternity of suffering.
Yes God loves us, but unless we repent and except Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior we will experience eternal suffering. If we do accept him we will hear Him say well done my good and faithful servant and be led into an eternity of joy, peace and happiness with no more sadness and be with Him forever in paradise.
I am saddened by those who do not accept Him, but once in his eternal kingdom I am promised that there will be no more sorrow or sadness, so I won’t be able to remember them.
Does God Love you? Yes more than you can ever imagine.
Is there a Judgment Day? Yes and it’s final.
Does Hell exist? Yes with all its torment.
Does Heaven Exist? Yes in all its Glory that can not even be imagined by you or I.
Some say that if they die and go to hell they’ll have a lot of company. That may be true, but I’ll guarantee you that they won’t have time to socialize with you.
I think about those who want to wait and put off coming to the Lord and others who say that they don’t want to hear anything about it. Then I think about my own life and how the Lord has blessed me with 76 years, which is beyond the three score and ten and how quickly it has gone by. So even if you live a full life, time is still very short. Why would people want to risk missing out on the joy of heaven and being with the Lord? I can’t imagine if you were only a twenty or twenty-five percent believer why you would want to miss out on heaven and risk a judgment that can send you into eternal suffering and torment. When all that you have to do is accept Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior and have such peace, joy and an eternal home with him for all eternity.
