The Origin Of Angels
Author: Bruce Cook
What is the origin of angels, where do they come from?
Angels come from heaven, which is Gods dwelling place, created by God. Angels are not continually created and do not evolve from human beings or creatures.
We know that all the sons of God shouted with joy at the creation of the earth in Job 38:7 and that satan, a fallen angel, was already on the scene by Genesis chapter 3 to tempt Adam and Eve. Both suggest that angels were created before us.
We sometimes hear people say when someone dies that now they are an angel. This is not true because there is a distinction between angels and human beings. There are very important differences between humans and angels with regards to their origins and natures, their ministries and future ministries. Although humans do not become angels when they die, we are nonetheless like them in many ways, even as they are like us. One implication of God’s plan is that there will be a radical change in the relationship between angels and human beings in the future.
Human beings are limited to life in the material universe. Angels are spiritual beings who are able to sense and be aware of both the spiritual and material realms.
Angels are not glorified human beings. We will be like angels in heaven, we will not be angels. (Hebrews 12:22-23)
Angel guidance is an option in scripture and thus for today, but it was not the most frequent means or even the second or third most frequent means that God used to lead His people. While God is completely free to send angels to us today, we have the Holy Spirit present with us and usually we are to expect the Spirit to guide us as we make a commitment and to rely fully on the Lord to lead us.
Some believe strongly that each Christian may have his own guardian angel assigned to watch over him or her. This guardianship possibly begins in infancy, for Jesus said in Mathew 18:10, See that you do not look down on one of these little ones. For I tell you that their angels in heaven always see the face of my father in heaven.
