Releasing The Burdens You Were Never Intended To Bear

The Promise of Psalm 23

The Lord is my shepherd;
I shall not want.
He makes me to lie down in green pastures;
He leads me beside the still waters.
He restores my soul;
He leads me in the paths of righteousness
For His name’s sake.

Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death,
I will fear no evil;

Surely most everyone has heard the 23rd Psalm and Max Lucado has used this passage as the basis for Traveling Light.

I have read several of Max Lucado's books and I like his writing style. He writes in an easy to read conversational style expounding on Biblical scripture by using everyday life situations.

In Traveling Light the author takes a look at each of the burdens that we carry with us and how we should let them go and let God take care of them. These burdens take on many forms including self-reliance, worry, arrogance, grief and fear among others. Using the 23rd Psalm for the backdrop the author tells us how God wants to take our hand and lead us through all of these circumstances to rest in him.

The author sums it up well in the final chapter; “Do we not dwell in the gallery of our God? Isn’t the sky his canvas and humanity his magnum opus? Are we not encircled by artistry? Sunsets burning. Waves billowing.And isn’t the soul his studio? The birthing of love, the bequeathing of grace. All around us miracles pop like fireflies-souls are touched, hearts are changed, and….We miss it.”

Carrying all of these burdens distracts us from God’s wonderful works, let Him bear them for us.

I recommend this book. It is enlightening and just may help you throw off all your extra baggage.
